November 2025 Preview Update


Its officially been 2 months since I first broke ground on Crypt Walkers. And honestly, I’m pleased with where its heading.

I was hoping to be much further along by this point, but sometimes thats just how the cookie crumbles. The game is still quite primitive, but I also see some glimmers of what I intend for it to become.

See the changelog for the details, but I’ll sum it up as, it just feels much better now.

On the downside, I’ve removed gamepad support, with no plans for reviving it in the foreseeable future( …but never say never ). I really wanted this to be playable on consoles and steam deck and switch. But, I also have a certain vision of how the game should play. With spell targeting becoming more prominent now, and some other magic related stuff I’m thinking about, I just don’t see it working all that well with a game pad, without watering things down.

I did try to make it work, but I also can’t lose anymore time or energy on it. If its devoting time to gamepad support, vs all of the other areas where this game is lacking, its a mostly easy choice. The lord giveth, and the lord taketh.

Changed

  • CryptSpider attack is now venomous, has new lingering “PoisonEffect”.
  • Minor Heal and Immolation spells are now targetable, and no longer auto target Player.

Added

  • New spells, “Slow”, “Haste”, and “Cure”.
  • New items, “Vial of Health”, “Vial of Mana”, and “Heart Shaped Box”
  • Able to collect nearby items via E key.
  • Walkers can drop items on death.
  • New leveling system for both players and monsters.
  • Generic spell VFX for Haste, Cure.
  • Configuration file in user data directory (requires manual editing).
  • New keys for maximizing window(F11), and toggling display of FPS, FrameTime metrics(F12).

Improved

  • Enabled shadows on more light sources.
  • Enabled more environmental effects: glow and fog.
  • CryptSpider has its own sound effects now.
  • Beefed up entity stats system.
  • Basic difficulty progression by way of monster leveling.

Fixed

  • Casting Immolation immediately after respawning could fail.

Removed

  • Experimental xbox gamepad input has been disabled.

Documentation

  • Added items list, and leveling summary.
